Michael McCarthy -- Originally from Gibbstown, NJ, Michael moved to the San Francisco area in 1971 after military service. He started a career in journalism there and in Los Angeles. He worked for International Data Group for 15 years, starting as Reviews Editor for the computer trade weekly InfoWorld, then as founding Editor of IDG Books (now Hungry Minds) in 1990, where he was instrumental in creating and naming the ground-breaking bestseller "DOS for Dummies," first in the series. He was editor-in-chief of SunWorld, a magazine for Unix computer professionals, then launched IDG's first Web business, WPI, publishing half a dozen Web-only magazines for programmers, including JavaWorld, first profitable magazine on the Web. More recently is cofounded "BLOSM.com", a site for authors and book publishers. Currently he is acting as a consultant to various startup ventures.
Bernice Wong McCarthy spent 25 years as an RN for Kaiser Permanente Hospitals and is now retired and enjoying life as the mother of teenage twins.
Kate and Molly McCarthy are juniors at Moreau Catholic High School, where they are interested in film and in art and are trying to figure out what college to go to. They would also like to mention our cats, Salem and Jack.
